Fruit Bowl

A lovely turned fruit bowl with areas carved out for air flow.

Carved Rose Jewellery Box

This is a larger jewellery box featuring carved roses on the lid and front of the box. it has 2 lift out trays, finished in gloss lacquer with royal blue felt lining and antique look brass hinges.

Custom Patchwork Style Jewellery Cabinet

This lovely piece is a custom job made from several types of timber glued together then shaped in an asymmetric style. It was requested by a fellow from Coffs Harbour who wanted a large cabinet for his wife's jewellery. It has 5 drawers and a compartment on the top. It is finished in satin lacquer, red felt lining and brass fittings.

It was an enormous undertaking as, although Matt has made a few of these patchwork style boxes before, this one was more than twice the usual size and used 34 tubes of epoxy glue. He also made the timber and brass handles .

It should look wonderful in its new home.

Custom Memory Box

This box was made for a lady whose friend had passed away and the box was given to her children so that they could store treasured items that belonged to their mother.

It is made from cedar and the lid features banksia burl trim in a star pattern. Matt also made the drawer handles from turned brass and timber.

This is one of Matthew's best pieces.

Jewellery chest

This is a cedar jewellery chest with tallow wood burl trim. It has 2 lift out trays, red felt lining and brass fittings.

Circular Jewellery Cabinet

This is a 6 drawer circular jewellery cabinet made from cedar with a little burl trim. The grain in this timber is really brought out with the gloss lacquer finish. Although the hinges on the doors are from the hardware store, Matt has made the front clasp and drawer handles himself.

Carved Butterfly Box

A medium size jewellery box with a butterfly carved on the lid and carved detail on all sides. It also has a fixed ring tray inside.

3 piece candle holder

A set of 3 candle holders set on a lovely piece of timber which, co-incidentally, is shaped almost like Australia. This was not planned to be this shape but was pointed out to us by Harold from Fusspots.

Just waiting for the right person to come along and buy it.

Memory Box Lid

This is the lid for a memory box Matt has been asked to do as a custom job. A lady saw his work at Fusspots Cafe here in Ebor and rang to ask him to make a memory box for a friend whose mother had passed away. She particularly liked the star pattern he puts on some of his other pieces.

This lid took a whole day to make and has only had one coat of lacquer. The finished box should look terrific. It will be all cedar with burl trim. More to come.

Burl Chest

This is a medium sized jewellery chest made from an unknown type of burl on a cedar base. The whole chest has been coated with a layer of epoxy glue inside and out before being lacquered in order to keep the burl from falling apart. The burl was part of the large load of dressed timber Matt purchased from Taree almost 2 years ago. Some of the timbers were labelled but some were not. Mystery wood then.

Decoupage Roses Box

This is a charming little jewellery box with decoupaged roses on the lid, sides and front. It was Matt's first go at decoupage and it turned out really well.

Patchwork style jewellery cabinet

This is what we call a patchwork style jewellery cabinet. It is made from lots of small pieces of various timbers glued together and then cut into shape. Matt also made the brass and timber handles for the drawers. Very effective and popular.

Vertical Jewellery Box

A lovely 4 drawer jewellery box made from Ebor Wattle. I just love the grain in this timber which has an almost gold sheen to it when lacquered.

Jewellery Chest with Floral carved detail

This is a magnificent piece. Matt carved the flowers and background detail and added a built in tray and 2 lift out trays. Made from Australian Cedar and one of his best works in my opinion.

Large jewellery chest with brass fittings

This large jewellery chest has two lift out trays and a drawer. One of Matthew's finer pieces. The brass fittings were made by Matt with the exception of the hinges which were bought online.

Made mainly from Australian Cedar, this is a quality piece.

Rustic Jewellery Chest

Made from various recycled timbers and featuring brass screws as a decoration.

Handy lift out tray and felt lined. What more can I say. It's lovely.

Six drawer Jewellery Cabinet

This cabinet has two lovely slices of burl as the lid and base. Matt has featured the natural edge of the burl at the front.

The drawers and remainder of the cabinet is made from cedar and pine laminated together before being sawn into its final shape.

The drawer handles were made by Matt from brass rod.

We took it to the cafe one Saturday morning and by the next day it had been sold.

Drinks Tray

Another Australian Cedar drinks tray with star inlay pattern in the centre. These have proved popular and apart from being functional, they look great on a display stand. Also for sale at Fusspots but probably not for long.

A vase full of timber tulips

Matt made these 5 tulips and turned the vase that holds them. They are really quite exquisite in their detail and would look good on any mantle piece.

Did you know that tulips are the flower that represents Parkinsons Disease? Co-incidentally that is what Matthew has. His woodwork is not only enjoyable for him to do, it is also good therapy.

These are for sale at Fusspots Cafe in Ebor.

More jewellery boxes

This is a lovely rustic Australian Cedar log jewellery box with a lift out tray, brass fittings and felt lined. Quirky and unusual, you will never find another like this unless it is one made by Matt.

He has carved the log to bring out the lovely grain in the timber and it is finished with a gloss lacquer.

More of Matthew's Clocks

More of Matt's clocks. The top picture is a red gum burl mantle clock standing approximately 23 cm high and 28cm wide. We changed the hands to gold hands as the black ones were a little difficult to see at certain angles.

The middle picture is a large red gum burl wall clock that is rather heavy but looks magnificent on the wall.

The bottom picture is a large rosewood wall clock which is also a little on the heavy side. The timber is very old.

All clocks have American quartz movements and are all for sale At Fusspots Cafe in Ebor.
